T4AG Review

I have a 2006 Lexus GS300 and started looking at having a local shop install one of several available bluetooth kits.
This was going to be a possible Christmas present to myself.  I did some research and was leaning toward a unit called GTA Car Kit.  With installation it would probably be near $300+ for everything.
I had an 8 or 9 hour trip I needed to take and wanted to be able to listen to some podcast and also to Tunein Radio.  As a last minute (temporary) solution, I purchased one of these cassette adapters.

Picked up one at a Walmart.  Plugged my iPhone into the cassette adapter and I was good to go.  The only problem I had was the cassette player would occasionally spit the thing out and I'd have to reinsert it a few times and I was good for a little while longer.  I also ordered one of these online and when it arrived, it worked much better (didn't eject itself).  I returned the original unit to Walmart for a refund.

Soon I got the idea of linking one of these 3.5mm Bluetooth adapters with my cassette adapters for some hands-free music and playback (sort of a poor man's Bluetooth kit).  I purchased my 1st unit from eBay and when it arrived and quickly installed it, paired it with my iPhone and I was streaming and loving it!
The process that works best for me know is I start playing my audio from my iPhone before I even get to the car (Tunein Radio or Podcast or music playlist).  Once in the car you just press and hold the single button on the bluetooth unit.  When you hear it play a series of tones, it's paired and your streaming will begin.  Of course you need to turn you car audio system to the cassette player.  This has become a low cost alternative that I'll live with for a while (maybe forever) and the money saved will go to some other tech gadget(s).

I know this is not a solution for many people because most of today's cars don't come with a cassette player.

Of course this unit will work with any audio/speaker system/stereo that has a 3.5mm audio-in jack.  I have an extra set of computer speakers (with sub-woofer)  that work just fine too.

The unit comes as shown above (of course I'm sure there are several manufacturers of these, all with almost identical design.  The USB charging cable is your typical USB charge cable.  I have one of these adapters in my car's cigarette lighter port.

I just leave my Bluetooth adapter plugged in and it stays charged at all times.  The nice thing about this arrangement is, on a couple of occasions I've parked the car, turned the car off, gone into the gas station and when I came out and restarted my car, the A2DP Bluetooth adapter was still synced and the audio stream that had automatically paused, restarted where it left off.   Your mileage may vary (not sure of the Bluetooth range).
